Plymouth Charity Trust are one of our longstanding local charities who have been providing affordable accommodation through their Almshouses in the city. Their incredible 400 year plus commitment to the elderly in our local community has championed independent living by providing a safe environment for those who find themselves in need.

As with the nature of Almshousing they are often old, converted buildings that take a lot to up-keep and have restrictions when modifying. The Trust has a rare and exciting opportunity to design and build a purpose-built facility that caters specifically for their older residents who are still able to live independently, yet have modern safety features and the needs of its residents at the heart. Due to the design, layout and listing limitations, their current properties are not capable of further adaption to support the enhanced needs of some of the residents who have mobility issues, or any new residents with disabilities. Some existing residents find themselves in a position of either having to struggle on or are faced with the likely alternative of going into a residential home and losing their independence. This has been an ongoing concern for the Trustees for many years.

Plymouth Charity Trust came to us last summer and shared the Grenville House Project story with us. They felt that this is the perfect platform to re-build brand recognition within the city, not only with local and future residents, but with essential partners who support the charity with connecting people in need. However, the charity branding was outdated and not doing a great job in sharing all the great things they do for the community. It was the perfect time to completely review the brand as a whole. From understanding the importance of their longstanding history to recording their brand story and defining their values to create solid pillars of operation. Creating a new identity that respectfully and meaningfully represented all that they stand for.

As a new studio, this was one of our first projects that allowed the full team to work collaboratively together. All the Biscuiteer’s individual talents and creativity inputted to this rebrand which we are all proud to share. The identity you see today champions the Trusts mantra ‘Safe and Happy Living in the heart of Plymouth’ with a friendly, welcoming feel that makes accessibility core to the identity. A lot of research and thought around colour, fonts, size of typography and graphics was important in reflecting how older generations use and need technology. Equally the brand has to communicate effectively to younger audiences who may become residents of the future. This was such a fun project and the relationship with the Trust continues as the Grenville House Project received planning permission and is underway for 2023!
